IMD Heatwave and Rain Alert Severe Heatwave Grips in These States Expected Soon as Weather Set to Change

The latest IMD Heatwave and Rain Alert has raised serious concerns across Uttar Pradesh, where an intense and prolonged heatwave has pushed temperatures to dangerous levels. The India Meteorological Department has issued a severe heatwave warning for nearly 60 districts, urging residents to take immediate precautions as the next 48 hours remain critical.

Severe Heatwave Conditions Across Uttar Pradesh

The scorching heat has disrupted normal life across the state, with temperatures crossing 44 to 45 degrees Celsius in multiple regions. Cities like Prayagraj recorded a staggering 45.2°C, making it one of the hottest places in the country. Similarly, Varanasi, Agra, and Hamirpur also witnessed extreme temperatures above 44°C.

The situation has become so severe that authorities were forced to implement emergency measures, including special arrangements to protect animals in zoos from heat stress.

Heatwave Claims Life in Kanpur

In a tragic incident from Kanpur, a 45-year-old man reportedly lost his life due to suspected heatstroke while riding a motorcycle under the blazing sun. This incident highlights the deadly impact of the ongoing heatwave.

Following this, strict measures have been implemented in several districts. The administration in Agra division has imposed a ban on outdoor work between 12 PM and 4 PM in districts like Mathura, Firozabad, and Mainpuri. Employers have been directed to ensure availability of drinking water and ORS for workers.

IMD Issues Heatwave Alert for 60 Districts

According to the IMD, the heatwave will continue to impact large parts of the state:

  • April 25: Nearly all districts including Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Ayodhya, Jhansi, Bareilly, and Lakhimpur Kheri are under alert
  • April 26: Heatwave impact will continue in eastern and central regions including Gonda, Shravasti, and Lalitpur
  • April 27: Eastern districts like Prayagraj, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, and Ballia will continue to remain under heatwave warning

Relief in Sight as Rainfall Expected Soon

Amid rising concerns, there is some relief on the horizon. According to meteorologist Atul Singh from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, a Western Disturbance is expected to become active from April 26.

  • Light rainfall is likely to begin in western regions and the Terai belt
  • Gradually, rain accompanied by thunder and lightning will spread across both western and eastern parts of the state
  • Temperatures are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius
  • This weather change may continue until April 30

Safety Advisory for Residents

With extreme heat posing serious health risks, authorities and experts have issued important guidelines:

  • Avoid stepping outdoors during peak afternoon hours
  • Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water and ORS
  • Wear light and breathable clothing
  • Watch for symptoms of heatstroke such as dizziness, nausea, and high fever
  • Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms worsen
